Pam Turns 30!

This is my little sister Pam.  She just turned 30 last weekend and we surprised her with a party full of family, which is really all she wanted.  I know that 30 is a big celebration for everyone, but this was extra special.  Pam was born with down syndrome and my parents were told not to expect much because she probably wouldn’t amount to anything.  Well, how do I put this?  Dear Pam’s evaluators:  Suck it!  (thank you Kathy Griffin)  If we want to talk achievements, I can tell you that Pam graduated high school, can do a fair share of reading, can list the Mariner’s line-up–positions and all, loves to perform musically (usually in her bedroom but preferably on a stage), is a Special Olympian in track and field, bowling, and basketball, is an avid video gamer, and she has a job!! –did you hear that all of you “poor suburbia runaways” begging for money outside of your local Cheesecake Factory?  My sister has down syndrome and she was able to get a job!–ok, maybe that’s for another blog…moving on..

It’s not Pam’s achievements that make her so wonderful, though, it’s the sheer joy she brings to everyone she comes in contact with.  She was/is a blessing for this family.  I couldn’t imagine my existence without her.  She has touched the lives of many, which was evident by all the smiles and tears at her party, and will continue to do so from here on out.  I apologize that I don’t have too many photos to show from her day.  I just really wanted to be a part of it and not hide behind my camera the entire time.  That said, here are a few of her special moments.
